Things those with Cancer Should Know about their Insurance Companies
If you or a loved one has cancer, there’s a lot you must consider before purchasing any life insurance. If you’ve already got insurance you need to check your policy well for what it covers, if anything. Understand managed care plans such as whether you have an HMO, PPO, etc.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It affects those of people with and without insurance. If you don’t have insurance that could very well mean, no treatment. In that case, there would be no hope. It is wise to check and make sure your policy covers it now, even if you aren’t affected so that if it becomes a diagnosis you or a loved one are covered in the future.
There is help for those with no insurance or those with insurance that can’t get the tests they need because their insurance won’t pay for it. There are groups called the Council for Affordable Insurance that will refer you to someone who will get you help paying for the exams and the care that you need.
Also not having insurance before you are diagnosed automatically puts you in that category of “Pre-existing” and a pre existing condition makes it very hard to get the coverage you need or will need to get the care required.
There is still hope
There are supplemental health plans available. Although these plans may not always be right for everybody they are worth looking into. Get to know your states high risk poll for pre existing conditions. Look up all resources including the local American Cancer society and see what other help you can get for any issues you are facing.
Make sure your claim has been paid the correct way. There is a way to lose benefits because of the billing process used to pay a claim. Try your best to stay on type of the claims and the billing process and continue to check with insurance on what future claims will be paid by them.
You will also want to check with your insurance on whether or not you have a limit to your prescriptions for the year. If you do, there are other programs out there that you could get help from to get the medicine at a more affordable price, if it needs paid out of pocket.
You will want to make sure that the reform and the affordable act medical care will affect your current life insurance needs and policies. It would be a good idea to check into that as soon as possible and have a backup plan.
Cancer isn’t the only condition we need to worry about; however it is a main one. Always do your research and find the best possible outcome for you and your loved ones.
